Simon Spillett and the Johnny Friendly Quartet – 17th June 2025
Firstly, for those of you who missed last Tuesday, if you look on our FB page soon, I’ll be posting some more snippets so that you can see just what a superb evening of the best of jazz we were so lucky to host at KLJC. We had a packed house, Simon Spillett was superb on the tenor but we also enjoyed the marvellous playing of the whole band of Gary Wood on trumpet, flugelhorn and vocals, Julian Bury on double bass, Bob Haddrell on keys and “Mr Eyebrows” himself on drums. (The FB Page is simply a search for KingsLangleyJazzClub) but click below and it might take you there – if you are a FB member of course. Otherwise you could join out WhatsApp Group if you’d like to see the videos – but you will need to talk to me one evening at Kings Langley if you want to be added to that Group.

The Matt Ward Quintet – 24th June 2025 – Stars of the future
However, the real purpose of this message is to remind you all that we have a super band of young musicians led by Matt Ward, trumpet and flugelhorn, coming to the club tomorrow. He will be accompanied by Jack Dawkins on sax, you will remember some of his amazing solos from the recent Hertfordshire Big Band evening a few weeks ago, plus Russell Williams on keys, Olly Dowlen on bass, Laurence Leadell on drums. Be sure to come along and support the next generation of jazz musicians, and in a few years you will be able to say “I knew they were rising stars after seeing them at Kings Langley Jazz Club in 2025”.
See you tomorrow.
